Latest in underground hip hop and everything dope

Madchild – Write It Down (VIDEO)

Swollen Members commanding general, Madchild, and the underground legend from Dilated Peoples, Evidence, have finally hooked up for their first official full-length collaboration, The Darkest Hour.

This album is a project that hip-hop heads have been waiting for ever since Evidence first produced a handful of tracks on Swollen Member’s 2000 debut album, Balance. The chemistry and collaborative potential between the two slow-rollin’, heavy-hittin’ lyricists became solidified and undeniable on songs like So Deadly from Swollen’s 2006 album, Black Magic, and the Evidence produced single Devils and Angels from 2015’s solo release, Silver Tongue Devil.

A joint project with longtime friend Evidence had become a low-key, bucket-list dream of Madchild’s, and had the Misguided Angel not spiralled into a six year, three-million dollar opiate addiction, during a time when he was Banned From America for his past affiliations to the notorious Hell’s Angels biker gang, Madchild’s 4th solo album, The Darkest Hour, produced entirely by Evidence, might’ve dropped sooner than the anticipated 2017 release date.

Nevertheless, Madchild has been sharpening his battle axe since his solo return in 2012 and ended 2016 by dropping the visuals to his lead single Write It Down, directed by The Jokerr, which finds Madchild gagged and chained to an ol’ chair in a creepy abandoned torture room, left to battle his lingering inner demons as the hurried and panicked soundtrack of despaired frenzy rattles thru off-key piano strikes that echo above the classic EV boom-bappin’, sludge hammerin’ drums, while Shane Bunting’s comic book and dark arts imagery meticulously wrestles his inner-guilt into a violent submission and channels that self-destructive energy into the “best record I’ve ever done.”

The Darkest Hour drops March 10th, 2017 with guest appearances by Alchemist, Domo Genesis, Oh No & more.

Until then catch Madchild on his Canadian tour with DJ Dow Jones & Joseph Rose (tour dates below video).
